How Does it Work?
The SlideRight®self-closing door mechanism
is a pneumatic system, which simply means it
works by compressing air. A complete system,
or SlideRight®unit, consists of a door closing
mechanism (cylinder) and a latch unit.
The cylinder is attached to the back of the
moving half of your sliding glass door, along
with a cable that extends along the top of the
door jam. The cylinder extends the length of
your door, out of the way, and is color matched
to blend in with your existing doorframe. The
cylinder houses the cable, a weight, air seals,
and adjustable air valve. When you open the
door, the weight attached to the cable is
moved in an upward motion, drawing in air
through the air valve. Once the door is
released gravity takes over, the weight moves
back down the cylinder, compresses the air,
and returns the door to the closed and latched
position. The closing speed is controlled by
adjusting the air pressure in the cylinder by
tightening or loosening a set screw in the air
valve.
The latch unit consists of a latch box, latch bar,
and latch handle. The latch box is installed on
the outside of the door frame at the top of the
door, opposite the closing cylinder, while the
latch bar is installed at the top of the door jam.
The latch handle is also attached to the door
frame on the side opposite the cylinder, above
the existing door handle, at a minimum height
of 54 inches above the finished floor, as
required by code. To open the door, the latch
handle is pulled down, retracting the plunger in
the latch box until the door is opened enough
to clear the double-tooth latch bar (about 6
inches). This allows the door to be opened in
a single motion.
The door closing cylinder and the latch unit are
independent of each other. While both are
required to comply with the pool barrier codes,
the door closing cylinder can be installed alone
to realize the benefit of the energy efficiency
provided by the system.

Manufacturing Quality
Our product meets the highest industry standards for production,
safety and quality assurance. All of the companies involved with the
fabrication and production of the SlideRight self-closing and latching
arcadia door mechanism are required to exhibit and maintain the same
high standards.
Custom templates and molds are utilized in order to ensure an exact
replica from our first unit produced in 1990 to our 40,000 + unit
produced in 2005. Every component of the SlideRight mechanism was
engineered with detailed specifications and force calculations to
ensure reliability and performance. In short, the quality and detail
of the SlideRight design is of the same caliber that would be applied
to a product produced by a large company with full engineering
resources. Therefore, we can guarantee the quality and specifications
of every SlideRight self-closing and latching mechanism that is
professionally installed.
The SLIDERIGHT self-closing and latching mechanism data provided is
based on 15 years of field experience and in progress 3rd party
testing. In addition, the current design is continually reviewed and
updated to ensure the highest reliability, quality and standards.
